Lawyers Argue in the British Scale
On May 18, 2021, the Chair of Law of Eurasia International University organized a debate with the participation of the students of the above-stated faculty, which was dedicated to the ways of exercising democracy.
The participants of the debate were greeted by EIU Rector, Doctor of Science, Professor Suren Ohanyan. Emphasizing the importance of the subject of the debate and the usage of such a method in the teaching process, the Rector wished the students success in their professional readiness and showing their professionalism and individual abilities, meantime thanked the faculty staff, especially the head of the faculty, Doctor of Law, Professor Rafik Petrosyan, for organizing such a practical course.
Before announcing the start of the debate, Nune Jomardyan, Deputy Head of the EIU Chair of Law, presented the rules and basic principles of the British debate in detail to the participating groups and the audience.
The lecturers of the Chair of Law and Management acted as judges and were directed by the Head of the Chair of Law, Professor Rafik Petrosyan.
The educational debate among the students was aimed at developing critical thinking, research skills, communication culture, as well as social and organizational skills, such as dialogue, teamwork, conflict resolution, trust, leadership skills.
As a result, according to the assessments of judges, the “For” and “Against” teams scored equally. The judges praised the students’ ability as future lawyers to present their arguments and criticism within the given topic and suggested organizing such debates more frequently.
As a rule, the debate ended up with hand-shaking between the teams.
